Top 5 Famous Fat Orange Cats

Fat orange tabby cats appear in movies and comics for good reason. They are action cats, heroes, and comedians. Are they funnier than other fat cats? The “research” from “established cat authorities” provides no proof, but orange cat aficionados know the truth! Here are the top five famous fat ginger cats:

1. Garfield – This sassy fat cat created by comedian Jim Davis might be the most famous fat orange tabby cat in the world. Garfield is about to release his 73rd book (!) and there is a TV show, movie, and tons of Garfield swag. As Garfield himself says, “I’m fat, lazy, and proud of it!”

2. Morris the Cat – Morris is the orange, sardonically-voiced face of the 9Lives brand cat food who will only eat his particular brand of food (which is not like most orange tabbies we know but they are trying to sell cat food, we get it). Learn more facts about Morris here.

3. Heathcliff – Heathcliff is “the star of the show, the big cat on campus, the king of the kitty litter, the maestro of mackerel, the wizard of Westfinster and the orange emperor of his domain.” – Heathcliff.com This fat orange cat has been annoying the owner of the fish store since his debut in comic strips in 1973.

4. Puss in Boots – The swashbuckling, Antonio Banderas-voiced orange tabby from Shrek with the huge saucer eyes was pretty svelte in the original movie but gained weight (and a pink bow) in Shrek Forever After (2010).

5. Tiger (An American Tale) – Tiger won’t eat mice because is a vegetarian. But, we suspect that Tiger is eating a ton of donuts cause he is large and in charge and sits around the house if you know what we mean!

Do Ginger Cats Have Special Traits?

In humans, red hair is often associated with a fiery, feisty personality. Is it the same with orange cats? There is some evidence that the answer is yes! National Geographic conducted a study which concluded that a cat’s fur color may be tied to personality. That study also found that orange tabby cats are the most outgoing. Of course, this comes as no surprise to ginger cat owners, who say that their orange fur babies are the most talkative and affectionate. What about appetite? Is your orange tabby more likely to get fat? There is no proof of that, but warm colors are the colors of home and food. Just think of Thanksgiving. Maybe this is why so many orange cats in movies and books pack the pounds! Another fun trait about your orange tabby cat is that they are more prone to getting dark freckles. How stinkin’ cute is that?

Is My Fat Ginger Cat Too Fat?

You may find yourself wondering, “Is my fat cat too fat?” Am I a bad cat parent if I laugh when my chunky cat falls off the couch because he is so fat? No. Well maybe (jk). But just because your cat looks extra fluffy or bigger than the average cat doesn’t necessarily mean he is overweight. Most experts agree that different variables like breed, gender, and whether a cat is spayed/ neutered affect healthy weight. But on average, a healthy weight for a cat is around 10 pounds and there should not be much extra fat around the cat’s ribs. If you are still unsure, there is no substitute for a veterinarian’s judgment. They can help you determine if your cat’s pudge is a matter for concern or due to his unique factors. If it’s the latter, then laugh at your fat ginger cat frequently and with no guilty conscience. Want to learn more about healthy weight for cats? Check out the article here.
